Well if you study history you know that many attacks on US naval ships brought us to War.
If we look at the attack on the Maine - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remember_the_maine
this brought us into the Spanish-American War.
If we look at the attack on the RMS Lusitania - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Lusitania this brought us into WW1.
If we look at the Gulf of Tonkin incident - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_incident this brought us into the Vietnam War.
Now if we look at the attack on the USS Liberty by Israeli forces we did not retaliate, not only did we not retaliate but alot of government officials try to label it as a friendly fire indecent when the attack lasted for two hours and the ship had a US flag hoisted.
Many of the survivors of the USS Liberty attack do not think it was an accident and do not like what Israel did:
There was even a US aircraft near by to the indecent and it was ordered by the president of the United States not to retaliate.
When a journalist disagrees with the editorial position of his or her organization, the usual course of action is to address those grievances with the editor, and, if they cannot be resolved, to quit like a professional. But when someone makes a big public show of a personal decision, it is nothing more than a self-promotional stunt.
We wish Liz the best of luck on her chosen path.
